Smooth Bent Egg with Silver Tobacco Pipe

Phenomenal grain isn't the only impressive aspect of this bent Egg from Tom Eltang. A serpentine quality emerges from the shaping in a long and lithe curvature from lip button to rim. The mastery of line and form is standard operating procedure for the Danish carver, and is evident in the voluptuous rising of the tall bowl's natural curves, its flanks draped with vertical grain in a contrast stain. The shank drifts away from the bowl in leisurely relaxation, joining the down-turned stem for an attractive S-curve in profile. Of particular interest is the silver band, which many may recognize as the signature silver design of S. Bang. When S. Bang closed its workshop, Per and Ulf instructed Tom on the construction and application of these accents, and gave their blessing for Tom to take them into the future.
