About This Pipe
The Horn shape, especially in the Danish tradition, is a pretty versatile form. We've seen everything from elongated, almost horizontal numbers, to paneled renditions like Sixten's Oliphant design, to something that captures a more naturalistic element. This rendition from Lasse Skovgaard is clearly a case of the latter-most, smoothly formed around one, clean arcing line from shank end to the rim. There's a distinct nautical theme to the design, mirroring the ebb and flow of a cresting wave — powerful and dramatic, yet not aggressive in its forward stance in profile. That wave-like aesthetic is reinforced here through a perfectly oriented sandblast, with ripples of ring grain undulating across the entire stummel.
