Talented artisan Lan Zhenjun draws inspiration from the Danish masters, placing special emphasis on clean lines and flowing, balanced composition when carving. With its graceful, fluid, dynamic shaping, this beautiful Blowfish showcases both Zhenjun's Danish influences as well as his own unique style.

Whereas many Blowfish feature an overarching panel that wraps around the center of the bowl, this offering from Zhenjun features a unique twist, with said panel skewed to the right of the rim. This deliberate asymmetry adds even more dynamism to an already highly dynamic piece, offering new details to appreciate from every angle. The rim is also quite inflated in profile, adding another distinctive flourish that allows this piece to really stand out on a pipe rack — even among other Blowfish. The unique shaping of the stummel perfectly coincides with the briar's stellar grain, of which there is plenty: Tight clusters of birdseye pepper the flanks of the bowl, while stunning cross grain reveals itself throughout the overarching panel that carries all the way through the underside of the shank. Joining the shank is a finely made stem of vulcanite; its saddled shoulders continue the ridgelines that frame the stummel for a seamless look that blurs the distinction between the two disparate materials — a true hallmark of a skillfully rendered piece.
