About This Pipe
In the context of pipe shapes, there are some designs you just don't want to put down. Whether it's the plumpness of the bowl or simply the natural configuration in hand, there's just something about these pieces that makes us continually pick the pipe back up and let our fingers wander around its various curves and planes. This bent Egg from Lasse Skovgaard is one of those pieces. The plump cheeking to either flank, the height of the rim itself, the deep, sweeping style of transition, and the comparatively sinuous shank and stem configuration all make it quite comforting in hand — while also lending it quite a lot of dynamism in profile, augmented by the smooth, lifting heel and the saddle-shaped, concave bevel of the rim. It seems the more I examine this pipe the more I find charming about it. Like I said, there are just some designs you can't put down.
