Smooth Standing Vase Tobacco Pipe

Taiwanese artisan Yuwei Huang draws inspiration from both Danish and Japanese schools of pipe design, crafting pieces that are at once organic and highly sculptural. The Standing Vase exemplifies this approach, blending elements of the bent Dublin and Poker shapes. At the forefront, a tall, full-bodied bowl rises from a firm, slightly pointed heel — this heel providing stability and allowing the pipe to sit upright without the need for a stand. From this seated position, the shank and stem extend vertically before gently curving downward at the button. A thick, compact transition tightly connects the bowl and shank, maintaining visual cohesion and minimizing the pipe's overall footprint. Though compact in reach, this piece is remarkably muscular, carved from dense briar whose stunning grain is brought to life by a smooth, honey-auburn finish.
