About This Pipe

This Tokutomi bent Dublin presents an interesting play on perspective. Viewing the left flank, we see something modern, almost abstract, defined most strongly by several short, swift sweeps of line and a crisply-formed, perfectly flat panel. From the right, however, the profile appears natural in theme, with but three defining lines, all of which are longer and more relaxed, and a seamless transition between the forms of bowl and shank. Throughout either of these contrasting presentations, however, the fine sandblast, and its resultant ring-grain, remains consistent, helping to keep the composition overall well-unified.
