Sandblasted Acorn with Jupati Tobacco Pipe

Luis Lavos is a Brazilian artisan whose work comprises a broad stylistic range primarily centered around fine works of Danish classicism, often presented alongside understated accents. Lavos' Acorn renditions are unique, with a striking kind of compositional balance that situates most of this pipe's visual weight near the transitional area. Said transition is wide, with plenty of room to drape a digit, and it gives way to an extended shank that curls softly as it reaches toward the stem, possessed of an eye-catching flare that terminates as the shank reaches a trim band of black vulcanite. This band of vulcanite marks the junction and the stem's pairing to a domed accent of polished Jupati, a kind of seed native to Brazil whose pale brown tones are contrasted by flecks of ruddy brown. The domed end of this accent continues the look of the rounded, flaring shank, and creates a wonderfully curvaceous combination of features that's stylistically contrasted by the base of a black vulcanite saddle that pushes out to lend this piece a comfortable smoking posture. Up front, the bowl stands on an extended heel spur whose sharp outline pulls the eye to the fore, and which works alongside the shank's build to give the transition a pinched look that holds one's attention. The bowl's walls flare out to an undulating, inflated rim that's chamfered into the chamber, said walls complete with enough curvature to offer comfort while smoking. Dressed in a crisp tanblast, the stummel here displays rippling ring grain cascading down the walls of the bowl, with streaks of flame visible beneath for even more detail to appreciate.
