Smooth Eskimo Tobacco Pipe

Mike Sebastian Bay started with a simple task, find someone to repair his father's old pipes. He ended up in Tom Eltang's workshop. Learning firsthand from one of Denmark's foremost masters, Bay learned how to shape, drill, engineer, and finish pipes, even being given Eltang's blessing to use his signature rustication. Bay's aesthetic is one steeped in Danish tradition, which he readily embraces.

Here, Mike Sebastian Bay offers his take on one of Tom Eltang's signature shapes, the Eskimo. This piece is quite compact, measuring in at just over five inches in length; however, it is exceptionally broad. The shank flares outward from the wide stem base to the cheeked transition, with two crisp ridges on the flanks providing a dash of structure before seamlessly blending into the bowl. Said bowl is quite stout, its walls flaring upward to a sharp ridge at the waist and then tapering sharply inward to the rim. Moreover, the stummel is dressed in a vibrant chestnut stain, highlighting mesmerizing pools tightly packed birdseye on the top and underside of the shank.
