Smooth Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

Danish artisan Mike Sebastian Bay got his start in the pipe making industry when, on his hunt to find someone to fix his father's pipes, he met Tom Eltang. Bay went on to apprentice for several years under the direction of the legendary pipe maker and has since become a well-respected figure in the industry himself. His style thoroughly embodies the Danish aesthetic, with influence from Eltang mixed into his own unique approach. Common defining characteristics of Bay's style include Poker shapes with "the bend," pipes with forward-canted bowls, and an air of light elegance — the latter two cues seen in this bent Dublin. Like many Danish pipes, the shape of this bent Dublin is underscored by a smooth, graceful line that extends from the fore rim to sweep around the heel and into the floating stem. Combined with the stem's gentle downturn, such a shaping cue allows the pipe to assume a comfortable jaw-hanging posture. A slight cant and a more deeply slanted front wall urges the bowl forward. From the cheeked transition, the shank curves up and forms an organic taper into the junction with the vulcanite saddle stem. A stain with deeply contrasted honey and dark brown hues dresses the smooth stummel, showing off tiger-like strips of flame grain around the bowl and clusters of birdseye dancing around the plump rim.
