Smooth Billiard with Boxwood Tobacco Pipe

Most Billiard renditions that we've received from Mike Sebastian Bay have either been sleek, pencil-shanked versions fitted with an elongated stem or utilitarian and lightweight workhorse pieces, often dressed in a crisp rustication and fitted with bamboo. Here, the Danish carver presents a compact Nosewarmer of under five-inch length. It features robust proportions that belie its smaller size, and the the composition displays Bay's Danish-informed shaping style — the transition prompting supple cheeks at the lower bowl, the bowl tapering softly in a forward cant, and the slender rim neatly rounded to align with the soft curves inherent throughout. It has all the makings of a go-to pocket pipe, made all the more alluring by a warm contrast stain and accented with boxwood at the stem base.
