About This Pipe
If this style of rustication looks familiar, that's probably because you've seen it adorning many a Tom Eltang piece. Though this Billiard was not made by Eltang, it is the product of his apprentice, Mike Sebastian Bay. Bay has been studying under Tom for several years now, and his style reflects Eltang's quality and design. However, Bay certainly adds his own elements, as seen in this piece. Though the general style of the rustication comes from Tom, Mike has styled it in a sweeping, parabolic fashion, making the crisp ridges undulate around the bowl. It's an excellently crafted piece, with two pale knuckles of bamboo contrasting the stummel's dark stain and fitted to a mouthpiece that shows off Mike's proficient stem work.
