About This Pipe

With over 40 years of pipe-making experience, Tom Eltang is a master of the craft, and his work is considered by many to be the high-water mark from which all other pipes are judged. Even with his esteemed reputation, Eltang continues to produce pipes at a mind-boggling rate, striving for perfection. This bent Brandy is a handsome showcase of Eltang's elegant style, displaying the Danish artisan's clean line work and keen eye for aesthetics. A sleek, straight-forward composition, this piece sees a plump, full-bodied bowl posed at the fore of a protracted shank and a trim, abbreviated saddle stem. The shank-and-stem arrangement's build brings to mind the Lovat shape, its extended length and trim proportions emphasizing the height and girth of the bowl in profile. The bowl itself stands atop a firm heel and grows thick, insulating walls that flare to a broad, softly inflated rim. The stummel's gorgeous grain complements the bowl's shape, with tight tendrils of flame grain framing the bowl's flared frame and a sea of birdseye populating the wide rim, all that grain highlighted by a warm, glossy finish.
