Smooth Lumberman Tobacco Pipe

For nearly five decades, Tom Eltang has fashioned some of the best pipes in the world. He's garnered considerable praise from collectors and artisans alike, and his work has influenced countless generations of pipe makers. Eltang began crafting pipes at a young age, and with mentorship from Anne Julie, honed his skills over the years, refining his craft in order to ensure the quality of his work. This Lumberman is easily identifiable as the work of the Danish carver, as it showcases Eltang's mastery of fluid lines and supple curves.

As is traditional for the form, this piece sees a tall, upright bowl situated at the fore of a protracted oval shank and an abbreviated saddle stem. The bowl tapers from its wide, ample heel to its taut rim, and as it does, it takes on a bulging waistline that indexes the fingers quite naturally. The cheeked transition divides the heavyset fore from the trim, gracile aft side, allowing the eye to individually appreciate either end of the composition. A gorgeous auburn finish dresses the stummel and highlights striking flame grain across the bowl, and fetching birdseye across the shank and rim.
