About This Pipe
With a background in architecture and industrial design, Greek Artisan Chris Asteriou exhibits a refined style marked by balanced proportions, clean lines, and elevated finishes. He has demonstrated a keen eye for carving all kinds of shapes, his portfolio ranging from highly sculptural to practical and minimalist. This Rhodesian is a testament to the artisan's mastery over briar, featuring harmonious shaping and fine finish work.
The confluence between grain and shaping here is quite impressive, with tight curlicues of birdseye falling perfectly in line with the bowl's upper waist while tendrils of flame grain climb the lower portion of the bowl's walls and accentuate the flanks of the shank. These gorgeous grain patterns are emphasized by a rich, smooth, auburn finish, which pairs handsomely with warm hue of the shank's boxwood ferrule. Much like the bowl up front, the end of the ferrule flares out with a softly angular flourish, and wears a crisp beadline of its own; this mirrored shaping makes for a pleasing balance within the composition. Finished with a sleek, hand-cut stem of vulcanite and boasting a generous chamber, this Rhodesian is sure to offer countless satisfying smokes.
