About This Pipe
Seemingly combining elements of his Wasp shape, this Wolfgang Becker Stetson seems to be a bit more full-bodied than the previous rendition we've encountered from the carver. As the name implies, it's fashioned to evoke the look of an old-fashioned Stetson hat, the pipe's domed, yet concave rim calling to mind the chapeau's broad rim. Here, said rim isn't as broad as it is poised, though it's accentuated by the carver's use of a warm, smooth contrast, bolstered by a spread of dark sandblasted texture down below. At the shank's end, Wolfgang's placed a mount of creamy mammoth bone, followed by a downturned saddle stem wearing a succinct, domed base. Very impressive.
