About This Pipe

French artisan Bruno Nuttens boasts a delightfully varied portfolio that ranges from understated, serially-produced works of Anglo-French classicism to more expressive, often Danish-inspired pieces made entirely by hand. The Twiggy is a signature shape from the French artisan, one he's crafted many times in the past, and it's one of the most overtly Danish shapes that he carves regularly. The transition is wide, with plenty of room to drape a digit, and it gives way to a slim, slender shank that lifts subtly while taking on a steady taper toward its end: with much of this taper oriented near the underside. The stem comprises a similarly tapering stretch of cumberland that's paired to the shank at a junction area highlighted by the stem's own accent of pale boxwood at the base. Up front, the bowl stands atop an extremely firm, spurred heel, an accenting feature lined by a single ridge whose pointed outline centers the visual weight at the fore and marks the start of the shank's taper through to the button. The walls of the bowl flare out expressively toward a broad, plateau-crowned rim presented without stain, one that overlooks a capacious chamber. Dressed in a warm, rich, smooth finish, the stummel showcases handsome grain throughout, with streaks of flame flowing up the walls of the bowl.
