About This Pipe
Though Werner Mummert has not completely foregone his usual modernist, avante-garge aesthetic, he does occasionally set it aside in favor of something a tad more traditional. That something, in this case, was a compact, Danish-esque take on the bent Apple, with a plump, nearly-spherical bowl set to a more structured, architectural, upward-flicking shank. It presents a tight-knit, gestural silhouette, lent an amplified sense of muscularity due to the deeply-blasted rows of stacked ring-grain. Werner has lent this fellow a unique detail, in the form of an indigo stem-base of brindled vulcanite, serving to provide a clever contrast, while adhering to palette that's still characteristically natural. A lovely piece.
