About This Pipe
Striking a similar profile to his Blowfish and Scorpion Blowfish renditions, particularly in the dramatic upward-flicking shank, this bent Ball from Jeff Gracik of J. Alan pipes is a certainly a beauty. Much in the way of Jeff's larger assemblage of Danish neoclassical fare, this fellow throws quite a bit of visual weight to the bowl itself, with added emphasis lent by an application of smooth contrast stain accentuating some very lively flame. Said flame is juxtaposed by the shank's deep, grain-coaxing sandblast, the likes of which begin at the transition, with ripples of ring-grain riding the length of the briar. And for a bit of a hidden treat, Jeff continued the contrast stain for the length of the underside, terminating at the mortise face.
