About This Pipe
While the elements of bowl and shank maintain a separate disposition thanks to the tight transition and generous cheeking, this bent Apple from Lasse Skovgaard exudes sinuosity, its curvaceous length generously bent in gradual curvature. The bowl is plump and round, and the shank curves upward and reduces in diameter as it meets the three-knuckle bamboo shank extension, which offers contrast of hue and texture. In profile, the stem offers balance with a downward curve, but dominates little visual weight due to its flat saddle configuration.
The bowl displays a light, chestnut stain that well illuminates the fine tendrils of grain rising vertically up the flanks to a rim that is scalloped, its front and back edges rising higher and the forward flank subtly urging forward. Supremely comfortable to hold, and endlessly fascinating to observe, this pipe exudes a lengthy and lithe disposition punctuated by expert shaping cues.
