About This Pipe
This Pot from Manduela Riger-Kusk perfectly showcases the Danish artisan's fondness for compact, petite pipes. The shank-and-stem combination is deceptively long in the photographs, making this rendition appear much larger than it actually is. In reality, this pipe measures just under five inches in length and weighs barely 28 grams, making it especially ideal for anyone who desires a lightweight design that's also easily portable and convenient when traveling. Such small dimensions make this piece even more compelling when examining how spot-on the proportional balance is between the bowl, shank, and mouthpiece — everything is exactly right where it should be. Even the grain perfectly follows the bowl's shaping, with tight streaks of vertical grain extending from the base up toward the rim. Streaks of grain also ride along the shank sides, with the warm contrast stain giving extra definition to each individual strand. Manduela has then accented the stem base with a section of creamy, swirled muskox horn, the organic material offering just enough contrast without being distracting or visually overwhelming.
