Sandblasted Hawkbill Tobacco Pipe

A talented American artisan with over a decade of experience, Silver Grey crafts pipes alongside her partner Brad Pohlmann in Applegate, Oregon. Silver's design style is unique, often adorned with nontraditional materials and unique accents, but her portfolio often sees a variety of signature shapes like this Hawkbill. While commonly seen in Italian pipe making, the Hawkbill shape has seen many interpretations within Silver Gray's work, with this piece here illustrating the carver's clean line work through the shape's traditional aquiline figure. The bowl holds an Egg-like physique, consisting of plump walls that stand atop a rounded heel and take an arcing taper to the flat rim. A tight transition grants this piece an active posture and gives way to a muscular diamond shank with a strong arching profile. Completing the silhouette is a gently downturned, tapered stem of swirling gray and purple vulcanite. The stummel is dressed in an inky sandblast, showcasing growth rings that ripple out from the heel, save for the smooth accent along the rim and junction.
