About This Pipe

Though this sort of flow and gesture is well on display amongst Scott Klein's body of work, it's been a little while since we've seen this sort of floral, graceful bent Dublin from him. It's a style that Scott handles beautifully, balancing both the lively sense of implied motion with a good deal of substance, along with a softened sense of shaping about the broad rim. Scott's left a good bit of smooth-finished plateau towards the aft of the rim, complemented by even more of it on the mortise-face, all bolstered by a plethora of flame grain all around. As for the shank, it calls to mind, at first, the look of the traditional Ivarsson teardrop, though closer inspection reveals it's actually lenticular, though the left flank's sweeping ridge is ever-so-slightly tighter than the right. It visually accentuates the form in profile, while also making for more tactile interest. Quite an impressive piece.
