About This Pipe

Though at times his style can be quite architectural and modern, Scott Klein's more organic numbers are, in my opinion, some of his best work. Be it horn or bamboo, Scott just has a penchant for pairing organic accents with equally organic shapes. Here we see a broad-chambered bent Dublin, set at a deep forward cant, with a strong taper down both the fore and flanks to the flattened foot of the base. The transition is oriented high along the aft, both allowing for more balance when sitting and creating a rather high-kicking, dynamic silhouette. Careful rhythm has been observed in the spacing of the bamboo in relation to knuckles, shank, and stem length, adding a sense of balance to the overall composition. He's finished it off in a micro-fine ebony sandblast, unearthing tight, rippling rings and long, uninterrupted strands of blasted flame grain.
