Smooth Bent Egg with Horn Tobacco Pipe

Tom Eltang's bent Egg renditions often display similar stances and gestures, prioritizing forward-urging lines and a dynamic sense of momentum. That said, the Danish artisan will slightly alter the exact shaping of the bowl and/or shank across interpretations: Some versions are more full-bodied of transition and lower bowl — almost Brandy-like — while others, like this piece, present a more poised posture, daintily perched on the end of the transition. The bowl seems to inflate from out of the shank, gently flaring into a waistline that's set slightly higher, similar in style to an Acorn. Such shaping makes this an exceptionally ergonomic pipe, naturally conforming to the palm and wrapped fingers. The shank is extended by a section of horn, gently flaring toward the stem to echo the expansion ring along the mouthpiece's base. Said horn accent is a marvel, too, the deep, coffee tones of this particular section drawing one in and demanding attention. The color palette does well to complement the chestnut contrast stain of the stummel, which highlights a cross-grain pattern that aligns perfectly with the shaping of the bowl.
