Smooth Horn (Diamond) Tobacco Pipe

A common style of Horn from Peter Heding, this Diamond piece is a stunning example of the Danish form and Heding's flowing aesthetic. What's so striking about this piece is how the forward-curling, flaring bowl is echoed at the unique, half-saddle stem out back — the topside curve is continued through the vulcanite, flicking upward as the line's trajectory travels into the surrounding negative space. Left to the imagination, the curling shank-end resembles that of a Nautilus shape (were curve's continuation to have been rendered from briar rather).

The rest of the design caters to Bo Nordh's iconic Horn rendition with crisp panels forming the flanks. Heding has put his own spin on the style, though, continuing the panels into the stem and wrapping them around the stem base to connect both flanks. Peter has also opted to curve the panel instead of planing it perfectly flat. Such a feature contributes to the in hand feel and accentuates the resulting ridgelines at the edge. To top it all off, the grain is oriented beautifully as cross grain fills in the flanking panels to leave whorls of birdseye fore and aft. It's no wonder it bears Peter's highest grade designation, marked by a Zirconia diamond above his name stamp.
