About This Pipe
Incredibly lightweight and trim of form, this straight Dublin from Frederico Becker could easily be designated as a featherweight despite being over six inches in lengths. There's still plenty of chamber within the tall, slender bowl, making the piece deceptively versatile and an easy clencher. Shape-wise, the form is undeniably "Becker," displaying the carver's angular aesthetic and conventional heel spur; however, the heel's point is more forward-inclined, drawing similarities to the traditional Skater shape. To echo the pointed aesthetic, the pinched shank flares at the stem base, making for a unique, concave underside. It's, then, dressed in a smooth, auburn stain — a less often seen finish from Becker, compared to his sandblasts — highlighting an array of windswept grain.
