Partially Sandblasted Calabash with Masur Birch (D) Tobacco Pipe

We've received a handful of pipes from Max Rimensi over the years that feature reverse Calabash engineering, but this is just the second actual Calabash shape we've seen from the Italian carver. This piece demonstrates that Max is clearly capable of crafting a mighty fine rendition of the classic form, proudly displaying its neoclassical shaping as the bowl commands much of visual weight. The towering bowl curls upward following a dramatically deep transition, culminating in a smooth polished, Mushroom-like rim. The shank features a decorative fitment of masur birch, complementing the rim while also providing some tasteful contrast against the alluringly dark sandblast that covers the stummel. The blast showcases some nicely consistent grain in an almost-matte finish, giving the piece plenty of stimulating texture to enjoy when you wrap your fingers around the hearty bowl. It's also lightweight enough to clench and its generous proportions promise plenty of comforting smokes.
