About This Pipe

The Strawberry doesn't seem to be revisited as often as other Danish-school forms, and I'm not entirely sure why. It's a shape which readily lends itself to an organic sense of shaping (as the name would suggest), though one which often calls to mind old-school, Cutty-esque forms adorned with a spur-like heel — as Jeff has achieved with this bamboo-shanked fellow. Going one further, Jeff's take here evokes the likes of different Danish form as well: Bo Nordh's Sphinx. Indeed, with tightly-pinched ridges rising upward from the spur, it does make for a rounded, shield-like fore, and all the more canvas on which to some dramatic flame. A tight bit of plateau crowns the rim, offering a pleasant pairing to the three knuckles of honey-blonde bamboo traveling up the shank, and leading the eye to a lightly-downturned saddle stem. Recommended.
