About This Pipe
Taking cues from the Danish bent Brandy, Jeff's Swan displays a strongly-implied sense of forward motion, evident in the canted bowl and complementing, gently-downturned stem. The bowl's cant isn't quite as strong as it appears in the pictures here, to my eye, though sporting a very distinct shift of visual weight about the base-heavy bowl. All of that appears to be leading the eye to the softly-shaped rim, one which displays a full 360 degrees of minute birdseye, pairing well with the same's worth of tight flame across the bowl, and an entire underside's worth of splendid, high-definition whorls. Fitting to the American carver's appreciation for a fine cup of freshly-roasted coffee, this one wears an espresso-colored contrast stain, highlighting the best of a brilliantly-achieved grain pattern, and offering an excellent match to the horn mount.
