About This Pipe
Pipedom in general has benefited greatly from the rise of the world-wide web as a means communication, bringing with it ready access to such things as on-line retailers (like us), on-line tobacco reviews, and on-line pipe discussion forums. Along with that it's also allowed for far faster and more convenient communication between artisans themselves, which has led, in turn, to collaborations - including collaborations between some of the greatest artisans around, even when they live on different continents.
So it is that the most renowned young American artisan, Jeff Gracik, and Russia's top master, Vladimir Grechukhin, wound up getting together to create a small number of collaborative pieces; generations ago two such far-flung pipemakers, despite both representing the cream of the crop, might have only been vaguely aware of each others existence.
This piece is in fact part of an on-going international project of Grechukhin's, the second collaboration he's taken part of with Jeff, and preceded by collaborations with Tom Eltang, Former, and Tokutomi, amongst a number of other great pipemakers.
