About This Pipe
Pete Prevost is known for his compact, muscular aesthetic, making this Oversized Tomato something of an outlier within his portfolio. That being said, while this piece measures over seven inches long, it retains a fairly low-slung build, marked by a broad, squat bowl, a compressed oval shank, and a slender saddle stem. The extra length on offer here accentuates the shape's elegant curvature, which begins at the bowl's fore and terminates at the stem's button. Said stem completes its downturn at approximately the same height as the bowl's rim, fostering a sense of visual balance across either end of the composition and making further use of the shape's impressive reach. Additionally, the stummel's ample size offers a broad canvas to showcase some impressive grain, highlighted underneath a crisp, earth-toned sandblast.
