About This Pipe
Asami Kikuchi has a unique history amongst Tsuge Ikebana's artisans. Her work as an artist specializing in the tactile experiences involved in small objects carved from wood informed her work as a pipemaker. The plump, well-rounded bowl of this Acorn nods to that history, its supple smoothness feeling quite good in hand, and being a piece that encourages one's hands to explore every minute inch of the piece. Pair that with two knuckles of elegant, pale bamboo, its own natural texture further enhancing the experience. It's a combination of three things — utilitarian object, artistically visual work, and tactile interest — that makes this piece shine.
