About This Pipe
This piece is easily my favorite of this update's trio of briars from Tsuge's Ikebana workshop. Balancing gracefully just at the underside of the transition, this Volcano boasts a profile that is nearly hypnotic, further emphasized by the grain pattern and vibrant stain. The aforementioned balancing point draws attention to subtle backwards cant of the bowl, aided in its effort by the electric lines of grain.
The graceful, curved underside is made up entirely of one of the largest and most awe-inspiring displays of birdseye I have yet witnessed on a pipe. This could be why Asami chose a half-saddle bit to continue this flowing line beneath, while the stem's top sees the softened curvature continuing to flip upwards. The result is nothing short of a masterpiece, and a dream for collectors of superior briars.
