About This Pipe
Given his appreciation for automobiles and experience creating precision automobile parts, it's not all that surprising to observe powerful, precise dynamism in each of Ohi's designs. What is surprising, and impressive at that, is his ability to merge such powerful lines and forms with an overall organic aesthetic. Simply put, viewing one of Ohi's compositions from any one face is an unjust representation of the design. It's an ever-changing specimen, and one which can only be truly understood after careful examination of all six faces. The lines themselves, while firm and aggressive from one vantage, turn soft and supple in another perspective.
This novel take on the Blowfish is a fine example of just that. The crisp ridges and hard lines of the left flank give way to a supple softness of curve along the right, relying on organic asymmetry to tie the composition together into one dynamic, visually flexible form. The grain pattern follows suit as well, with each flattened face and sharp line framing a brilliant display of both cross-grain and birdseye — fluctuating, much like the shape itself, with the vantage.
