About This Pipe
The form of a bowl and the overall length of a pipe can do a lot to change one's impression of its style. This Acorn, for example, is very close to equal in height with the Lovat, also by Sam, going up today, and the bowls aren't much different in breadth either, at their widest points. Yet this is by far the lighter-looking of the two, simply by merit of how and where the bowl tapers, and by the trimmer transition and shank, which are followed by a longer saddle stem. I say "lighter-looking," though in actuality these differences do make for a lighter-weight pipe as well, with this Acorn being just a bit less than 3/4s the weight of the Lovat, at under 30 grams.
