About This Pipe
Yuwei Huang presents a style that's often full of organicism and asymmetry, displaying an aesthetic rooted in the Danish tradition. Here, the Taiwanese artisan leans into that influence in this Egg. Lithely bent, the profile rushes with implied momentum, and the bulbous bowl pitches forward in a canted posture. The supple curves and overall shaping fit in well with Danish design cues, and the bamboo further accentuates the organic motif Yuwei is evoking. However, such a craggy, tight-knit piece of bamboo is something more commonly seen from American artisans. Huang uses it well here, the eccentric knuckles bulging more in the center for a heightened sense of organicism and well-balanced interplay between the rotund section of bamboo and the bulbous shaping of the bowl.
