About This Pipe

Marked by a raised and pinched transition that visual separates shank and bowl, Wolfgang Becker's signature Wasp shape is an emblem within artisan pipe making, and the German artisan has creatively and uniquely rendered the general design in myriad ways since he first created it in the late '80s. This particular rendition dramatically accentuates the separation of bowl and shank, as the shank flares and curves drastically toward the stem, while the Egg-like bowl urges forward in the opposite direction. Along with that distinct shaping cue, the finish further individualizes this piece: It bears a natural palette for optimal patinating potential, and the shank is actually sandblasted, but done so gently that it's only apparent in hand — seamlessly and imperceptibly transitioning into the bowl's smooth texture at the transition. Further commended by a mammoth accent along the shank end, this piece has received Wolfgang's Double Wolf Paw grade designation, second only to his Signature stamp.
