About This Pipe
Polish carver Wojtek Pastuch boasts a rather diverse portfolio that ranges from the whimsical and abstract to the more classical and reserved. This Canadian showcases the more conservative end of Pastuch's shaping spectrum, but like all of the carver's shapes, it exudes an alluring charm that captivates and entices. Shape-wise, this piece is as classic as they come, displaying a pert, upright bowl that's poised at the fore of an elongated oval shank and a tapered vulcanite stem. The shank-and-stem arrangement's reduced diameter keeps the overall form incredibly lightweight in hand and fosters a sleek, streamlined profile that lends visual prominence to the bowl. Said bowl taper subtly from its heel to its rim, and as it does, it forms a low-set waistline that bulges outward to meet the hand. A crisp sandblast dresses the stummel and coaxes out tight stacks of grain that radiate up the bowl's to a smoothly polished rim.
