About This Pipe
Werner Mummert tends to approach the classic Poker shape through a wide range of stylistic lenses. His De Stijl pieces, for example, are heavily Cubist-inspired, pairing crisp geometric panels with bold, vivid color palettes. Other times, he'll use the form to showcase his deft hand at reverse Calabash engineering, fashioning broad condensation chambers within the shanks themselves. Then, of course, you have pieces like this sandblasted example, which are fairly classical of shape overall but feature certain stylistic tweaks — such as the asymmetrical, undulating rim and diamond orientation of the bowl — to set it apart. In short, you could curate an entire collection of Mummert Poker shapes and never once have two of a kind.
