About This Pipe
While Adam Davidson's study of Danish and Japanese masters is shown in his proficiency crafting organic, curvaceous designs, the American artisan also boasts an impressive acumen for fashioning traditionally-inclined pieces, as seen in this Lovat. Here, Davidson has rendered the shape's elongated proportions within a lightweight, compact form factor, making it well suited for portability and comfortable clenching. Even with its more reserved shaping cues, this piece excellently showcases Davidson's clean, elegant line work, featuring a pert Billiard bowl posed at the fore with upright posture, its walls rising straight from heel to rim. Paired to the bowl out back is an arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement, with its round, protracted shank and sleek, abbreviated saddle stem completing the shape's iconic silhouette. A crisp, chocolate-hued sandblast dresses the stummel and reveals dense birdseye across the bowl's flanks.
