About This Pipe
Hans "Former" Nielsen's Billiard renditions run the gamut from elegant and streamlined to more compact and muscular, yet all are united by an adherence to Danish shaping cues and the superb craftsmanship for which Nielsen has become known. At just over five inches in length, this particular iteration falls within the latter aforementioned camp, defined by a compact form but with considerable substance throughout.
As it regards the Danish design tradition, this piece shows some subtle cheeking at either side of the transition while the top line flows seamlessly and gently from shank to bowl. Said bowl, then, is softly lifted of heel, perfectly echoing the arc of the transition, and the walls taper slightly in a forward cant to the rounded rim. Dressed in an auburn contrast stain, the stummel showcases superlative flame grain, made all the more classy by Former's inclusion of a broad silver band at the shank end — the engineering masterful as the shank's lines run uninterrupted through the accent and into the tapered stem.
