Sandblasted Oversized Author Tobacco Pipe

In an update that features an array of pencil-shanked Scottie Piersel pipes, this stout Author from the American carver seems somewhat out of place. However, in the context of her overall portfolio, this robust number fits in quite nicely, as Scottie has produced this same shape a number of times before. It also features one of her pleasantly textured sandblasts, and the rim is crisply chamfered and finished smooth to contrast, a convention that aligns with her previous renditions as well.

As the "Oversized" title indicates, this is no pocket pipe, filling out the palm and offering a chamber of considerable breadth — wide enough that my thumb fits easily, without any fear of getting stuck. (It's always risky testing a chambers size with one's fingers, but there's no danger here.) The Author, while a classic shape, is less-often rendered when compared to other traditional designs, yet Scottie readily produces these muscular iterations. And she always manages to make each one unique, typically by her creative use of color palettes. This one combines the natural hues of a virgin-like sandblast with a vibrant stem of green-swirled, deep aqua blue vulcanite.
