About This Pipe
Sabina Santos lives in Portugal and is one of the few artisan pipe makers in the region. She discovered her passion for pipe making online after leaving her corporate job. Initially, she learned through simple trial and error, but her skills quickly evolved. This journey took her to Denmark for mentorships under renowned artisan pipe makers in the region. Over several trips, she refined her craft, enhancing her skills in both finishing and shaping. Sabina combines her natural talent with an infectious enthusiasm for design, making her work stand out in the pipe-making community.
This Apple shape is a fine example of Sabina's design sensibility. The bowl is generously plump, offering just the right amount of briar to sit comfortably in hand, its near-spherical form immediately capturing attention in profile. The clean, well-defined lines of the shank lend the piece a striking visual presence and introduce a sense of structure that contrasts beautifully with the bowl's rounded softness.
The composition is further elevated by a gray vulcanite saddle stem, accented with a bookended section of pale mammoth. The stummel's grain and sandblasted finish complement the shape wonderfully, with cascading ring grain patterns that emphasize the bowl's gentle taper and cohesive form.
