About This Pipe
This paneled Apple by Henri Sørensen is a study in contrast. Its bowl possesses soft, supple curves that are juxtaposed against crisp, angular facets, which belie the shape's gradual upward taper, rounded, full heel, and bulbous waist. Like the bowl, the shank boasts a crisp angularity of its own, with its pronounced ridgelines extending from the transition through the base of the saddle stem. The form's firm lines lend a pronounced structure to the shape's profile and enable the composition to sit confidently on a desk top. A warm smooth finish dresses the stummel and highlights handsome grain across the briar's surface, while an accent of horn adorns the junction and ties the shape together with a dose of vibrant color.
