About This Pipe
There's a reason why we don't see too many of these extra-long, pencil-shanked pipes. It's an arduous, time-consuming process that's unforgiving of even the slightest mistake. As one of the only artisans to prolifically produce pieces such as this, Scottie Piersel's work is as recognizable as it is impressive.
Here, the American carver presents one of her Magnum Stacks. It's a classic shape, elongated to Churchwarden proportions, yet arrow straight of line, with much of the overall length coming from the briar shank reinforced with steel. As if creating incredibly long pencil shanks wasn't enough, though, Scottie consistently adds further innovation with colorful finish and stem combinations — this particular piece pairing an earthy, rustic sandblast with a vulcanite of peach and salmon hues, the mouthpiece and shank separated by a visually pleasing, creamy-hued accent.
