Unmistakably Scottie, this sleek, pencil shank Dublin boasts some generous proportions, though stylistically it's an upscaled version of previous pieces we've seen from the American carver. As apparent in its "Magnum" designation, the bowl hosts a hearty chamber surrounded by thick walls and is topped with a gently inflated and beveled rim, adding a refined touch. Being slightly forward of cant and with a subtly raised transition that makes for a pronounced heel, the bowl feels at home in the hand, and for good reason, too, because the arrow straight, Churchwarden length shank, reinforced with stainless steel, is sure to encourage long, relaxing smoking spells for which this pipe was clearly not intended to be clenched hands free. Piersel has done well to shape the design around the briar's natural grain — birdseye crowns the rim while streaks of flame lick the flanks — and dress it in a dark, walnut finish that pairs perfectly with the hand-cut cumberland stem and allow the slim, milky white accent band to really pop.
