About This Pipe
Sabina Santos lives in Portugal and is one of the few artisan pipe makers in the region. She discovered her passion for pipe making online after leaving her corporate job. Initially, she learned through simple trial and error, but her skills quickly evolved. This journey took her to Denmark for mentorships under renowned artisan pipe makers in the region. Over several trips, she refined her craft, enhancing her skills in both finishing and shaping. Sabina combines her natural talent with an infectious enthusiasm for design, making her work stand out in the pipe-making community.
This paneled Lumberman showcases her distinctive, contemporary style. While paneled designs often emphasize the bowl, Santos instead incorporates this crisp geometry along the shank and stem. The craftsmanship is particularly impressive along the precise hexagonal shank, which maintains the long, lean proportions characteristic of the Lumberman shape.
The bowl stands poised at the fore, tapering gracefully toward the rim with a silhouette reminiscent of the Brandy shape. The junction is accented with Durat, a composite material made with 30% recycled plastic that Santos has helped introduce to pipe making. The stem, crafted from cyan-hued vulcanite, mirrors the shank's geometry before tapering smoothly to the bit. A light sandblast completes the piece, revealing striking growth rings that climb the bowl's flanks.
