About This Pipe

While Pete Prevost crafts a wide variety of different shapes, he tends to prioritize the compact and muscular aesthetic of the North American tradition, which is certainly the case with this Acorn design. At less than five inches long, this piece boasts a reserved footprint but offers ample substance in the form of a broad, stout bowl. Said bowl stands atop a wide heel and grows thick, insulating walls that flare upward to a broad, plateau-crowned rim. As the bowl expands, it takes on a subtle forward cant that, along with the vaulted posture of the shank-and-stem arrangement, gives the entire composition a dynamic look in silhouette. The aforementioned shank emerges from the bowl's low-set transition and flicks upward before joining a demurely curved saddle stem. The shank and stem are joined at a junction marked by a band of vibrant boxwood, the hardwood's warm complexion standing out starkly against of the rest of the pipe's earthy complexion. A crisp sandblast dresses the stummel and highlights a lattice work of concentric growth rings intersected by vertical flame grain.
