About This Pipe

Mike Sebastian Bay started with a simple task, find someone to repair his father's old pipes. He ended up in Tom Eltang's workshop. Learning firsthand from one of Denmark's foremost masters, Bay learned how to shape, drill, engineer, and finish pipes, even being given Eltang's blessing to use his signature rustication. Bay's aesthetic is one steeped in Danish tradition, which he readily embraces.

This Rhodesian by Mike Sebastian Bay possesses the shape's traditionally conical bowl, as the walls flare to a bulging, high-set waistline before tapering in equal measure to the rim. Out back, a short oval shank and a protracted tapered stem keep this piece quite lightweight and manifest a lithe profile. Moreover, the stummel is dressed in Bay's take on Tom Eltang's iconic rustication, which is marked by deep, craggy undulations that dance across the bowl and shank. However, the rim displays a chestnut smooth finish, offering a visual and textural contrast to the rustication and accentuating the rim's soft contours: a hallmark of classic Danish style.
