About This Pipe

A whimsical and highly creative Poker, this rendition from Mike Sebastian Bay wonderfully showcases the Danish artisan's minimalist style and gifted ability to modify traditional shapes. If the rustication technique used on this piece seems familiar, that's because Bay apprenticed under Tom Eltang and the legendary carver gave Mike his blessing to utilize the distinctive rustication style. It's used to great effect on this piece, making the dramatically canted bowl even more visually striking and offers an abundance of intriguing texture that's delightful in hand. Grooved waves cascade down the tall, playfully curved bowl in a satisfying concentric and uniform manner with smooth briar along the softly rounded rim and a trim band along the shank end offering modest contrast. The shank is quite trim and cylindrical in its shaping to match the bowl, while the mouthpiece features a single expansion disc for added visual interest. Not to mention, the bowl's flattened heel enables this piece to sit stably, making it an even more versatile and practical design.
